Can you substitute 100% fruit juice for one or two of the recommended fruit servings?

Sometimes I don’t have enough fruit in the fridge to get all my servings but I usually keep 100% juice. Am I getting enough nutirents this way?

  1. Poutine Says:

Yes only 1/2 of a glass is one serving of juice
(as long as it is juice and not fruit “beverage”)

    One Serving:
    - 1 medium fruit (about the size of a baseball)
    – ¼ cup dried fruit
    – ½ cup fresh, frozen, or canned fruit
    – ½ cup fruit juice
    – 1 cup raw leafy vegetables (about the size of a small fist)
    – ½ cup cut-up raw or cooked vegetables
    – ½ cup vegetable juice
    :)

Yes, 100% juice works for a fruit serving … 1/2 glass is a serving … you miss a little fiber, but you could make that up other places.

Yes, a 1/2 cup of 100% fruit juice equals one serving of fruit. Keep in mind however that juice doesn’t contain the fiber of the actual fruit.
