Should I only drink water to lose weight or is fruit juice ok?

For about a week now, I have been drinking only water and Crystal Lite in order to lose weight. The problem is that I have always loved fruit juices (grapefruit juice, orange juice, and cranberry juice are my favorites). I’m worried that the extra calories will prove detrimental to my goals, but I’m having some serious cravings. Exactly how far will drinking juice set me back?

If you like fruit juices that’s fine. Don’t worry about it too much. Try and go for the low calorie, and/or no sugar options as these will have far less calories than the full sugar brands.

Be sure to read the nutrition labels and find out how many calories are per serving, then judge how much additional exercise you will have to do each workout to burn those extra few calories, which will allow you to drink fruit juices as you exercise.

An alternative way to have these juices is to cut back more than usual on the diet. For example, no sources on your food, or a smaller portion of vegetables, or skipping out that mid morning snack or some of it, etc.

    Hope this helps.

    Good luck!

It’s good that you’re drinking water a lot instead of sugary drinks, but having some fruit juice will not set you back in your diet. As long as you choose fruit juices that are actually juices and not just fruity flavored drinks (which tend to have tons of sugar in them and therefore tons of calories), you will be fine with your diet. Just don’t replace ALL the water with juice! A few glasses of fruit juice a day combined with as much water as you’re drinking will be fine for your diet, and if you choose the good stuff, you’ll be getting vitamins and all the good things that come with fruit juices as well!

If you are really concerned about your calorie intake, however, there are juices in the market labeled “lite,” like lite (or sometimes light) apple juice and the such. Those taste pretty much the same, but not as sugary.

I would skip the fruit juices. They are high in calories and sugar and your body does not need them. Eat fresh fruit instead.
